BEST PHOTO
This is definitely not my best photo. I have no idea what actually is, in fact. But I do adore it, and I also adore this still life. All of the pictures that came out of this were incredibly dramatic; harsh lighting, strong colors, and harsh edges. The still life was made up of a beautiful, thick, and textured cloth, a skull, string of beads, gold chain, and stringless violin. My favorite photos in the series are the ones that focus on the blue string of beads. It creates leading lines and a pop of color on the deep red cloth. Although this was way back in term 2, I still feel that this is a wonderful photo. |

LIGHT
I adventured through the streets of Warren RI on Saturday, September 23rd at 10:30 AM to photograph light. One of my favorites is the one with the grass reflection in the grill of a Ford truck. When editing this photo, I was extremely conscious of the rule of thirds. I straightened the license plate to bring a solid focal point into the photo and positioned it on a third. The edge of the grill is also lined up with a third, and I lined up the reflection and the grass split on a bottom third. The shadows of the grill make the light shining in the metal pop. It was a beautiful overcast, post-rainy day and it made all of the color in my photos really hold true. This photo evokes an adventurous feeling, as it presents a lone car and a reflection of a vast field. |
PINHOLE PHOTOGRAPHY
I placed my pinhole camera very close to the school on a tree. It was maybe 10-15 ft away from the building. The result was this crisp reproduction of the school, abrevites, and a bit of the hanging tree branches.
1. Camera Obscura: this term derives from Latin and translates to "dark room" camera. This refers also to pinhole photography. 2. An altoids tin was painted black inside and out. A large hole was put into the top of this tin and behind that, a thinner sheet of metal with a pinhole. light sensitive paper was put on the inside, and once it was put up for a few days, the image negative printed horizontally flipped. 3. A larger hole with a sheet of metal behind it and in that a smaller hole. Tape was put on top of the holes to act as a shutter. 4. The width of the altoids container, or 21.28mm. 5. I placed my camera on a tree very close to the school so I could get a fairly close shot of it.. I kept it out for 4 days. 6. The sun. 7. The image showed as flipped horizontally and as a pinkish negative. 8. The photo was scanned and inverted in photoshop and flipped horizontally. It then was lightened to be able to print nicely. 9. My photo came out incredibly crisp and better than I'd ever imagined. I would not like to redo anything about this, but I am excited to try pinhole photography again. |

PINHOLE PHOTOGRAPHY #2
I placed the pinhole camera in front of my shed in my backyard. I left the camera out for 3 days. The light created a sun path in the back of my shed, showing the afternoon sun. The image was clear because I left it out for a bit. I did not change my camera. Both my in school and out of school images came out well and were noth positioned very close to the building to get a clear, close image. I like them in different ways; the school fills the whole frame and feels huge while the shed feels tiny and shows the nature surrounding it.
